NATIONAL
WORLD WAR I
MEMORIAL

WASHINGTON, D.C.

Opened to the public April 17, 2021

The National World War I Memorial design effort began in 2015 following the announcement of an open international design competition to develop the plot of land known as Pershing Park as the future home of the new National WWI Memorial in Washington, D.C.. In August of 2015, Joe Weishaar was selected as one of 5 short-listed designs to compete in the second stage of the competition. In January of 2016, and working in partnership with sculptor Sabin Howard, Joe was selected as the lead designer of the memorial.

The memorial serves as a lasting tribute to the nearly 4.7 million Americans who fought and served in The Great War over 100 years ago.
